Module / WeekTopics + Hands-On Focus
Week 1 — Foundations & SetupNGFW fundamentals (traffic flow, security concepts) • Firewall deployment basics (interfaces, zones, virtual router) • Initial configuration (management access, admin roles, updates) • Objects (addresses, services, tags, groups) • Policy fundamentals (rule structure, order, best practices)
Week 2 — Policies, NAT & RoutingSecurity policies (App-ID basics, user/group policy, URL categories, rule tuning) • NAT (source NAT, destination NAT, order of operations, common designs) • Routing essentials (static routes, VR concepts, path selection) • Decryption overview (SSL/TLS concepts, when/why) • Segmentation patterns (zone design, north–south vs east–west)
Week 3 — Security Services, VPN & OperationsThreat Prevention (Anti-Spyware, Vulnerability, Antivirus, WildFire overview) • URL Filtering (allow/alert/block strategy) • Visibility & monitoring (traffic/threat logs, filtering, reporting) • VPN basics (site-to-site IPsec concepts, remote access overview) • Operations (backup/restore, upgrades, config management, troubleshooting workflow)
Hands-On Labs (throughout)Build zones/interfaces/routing for a small topology • Create security policies with App-ID + user-based rules • Configure SNAT (outbound) + DNAT (inbound publishing) • Attach security profiles and validate threat logging • Troubleshoot with logs + session tools • Basic site-to-site IPsec setup + verification
OutcomesConfigure core networking (interfaces/zones/routing) • Build and maintain security + NAT policies • Enable key security services and interpret logs • Troubleshoot real traffic issues using best practices on Palo Alto Networks platforms
